About Uttarakhand
The Devbhoomi, or land of the gods: Rishikesh and Haridwar on the Ganga, the Char Dham pilgrimage, and treks for every level, from Tungnath and Chandrashila to Kuari Pass and Har Ki Dun.
It's also the easiest Himalaya from Delhi. Rishikesh is 5–6 hours away by road, and Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport is about 20 km from it.
- Best time
- March to June and September to November. July and August bring monsoon landslides; winter treks run December to March.
- Ideal trip
- 4 days for Rishikesh; 5–7 days for a trek
- Getting there
- Fly to Dehradun (Jolly Grant), or take the train to Haridwar, Rishikesh or Kathgodam (for Kumaon).
- For visitors from abroad
- Rishikesh is vegetarian and alcohol-free by local rule. River rafting closes in the monsoon (roughly July–August).
