About Jammu & Kashmir

Kashmir's valley is ringed by snow peaks, with Mughal gardens and houseboats in Srinagar. Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg are each a day trip or a two-night stay away.

Spring brings the tulip garden and almond blossom, summer brings green meadows, autumn brings chinar-red, and winter brings skiing in Gulmarg.

Best time
March to October for meadows and gardens; December to February for snow. The tulip garden opens late March to April.
Ideal trip
5–7 days
Getting there
Fly into Srinagar; there are direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
For visitors from abroad
Check your government's travel advisory for Jammu & Kashmir before booking. Prepaid SIMs from outside J&K don't work there; use a postpaid connection, buy a local J&K SIM or rely on Wi-Fi.

Is it safe to travel to Kashmir?+

Tourist areas are visited by lakhs of Indians every year. Security situations change, so we check the latest advisories before your trip and adapt the route.

Houseboat or hotel?+

Both. We suggest one or two nights on a houseboat and the rest in hotels.

Do we need local cabs in Gulmarg and Pahalgam?+

Yes. Local unions run the sightseeing cabs in Pahalgam and Sonamarg; we pre-arrange them.
