Quick answer
The Chopta–Tungnath–Chandrashila trek package is 5 days from Haridwar and includes Deoria Tal, Tungnath temple (about 3,680 m) and the Chandrashila summit (about 4,000 m). It suits first-time trekkers with moderate fitness, costs from ₹14,000 per person, and runs March to June and September to December, with snow treks in winter.
Trip Overview
Often called the Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand, Chopta is the classic first Himalayan trek. You begin at Deoria Tal, where the Chaukhamba peaks reflect in the lake at sunrise, then walk to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world, and up to Chandrashila for a 360° view of Nanda Devi, Trishul and Kedarnath.
Days are short and well marked, with 2–5 hours on foot and 6–7 hours on summit day. Your trek leader carries a first-aid kit, oxygen cylinder and pulse oximeter, and in winter we add microspikes and gaiters. Start walking 30–45 minutes a day for a month before you go.
