About Munsiyari
At 2,200 m in the far east of Kumaon, Munsiyari faces the five Panchachuli peaks across the Gori Ganga valley. It's the base for the Khaliya Top meadow hike and the Milam glacier trek.
Women-run homestays in Sarmoli village, oak forests full of birds and a long, scenic drive through Chaukori make it one of Uttarakhand's quietest, most rewarding trips.
- Best time
- March to June and October to December. Winter brings snow and clear views; avoid July and August (landslides).
- Ideal trip
- 6–7 days from Kathgodam
- Getting there
- Train or fly to Kathgodam/Pantnagar. Munsiyari is a two-day drive with a night at Binsar or Chaukori.
- For visitors from abroad
- Mobile signal is patchy; BSNL and Jio work best. Carry cash for village homestays.

Why is the drive so long?+
Kathgodam to Munsiyari is about 275 km of mountain road. We split it with a night at Chaukori or Binsar.
Is Khaliya Top hard?+
Moderate. About 4 hours up and 3 down with a local guide; no technical sections.
Can we see snow?+
From December to February, often. Khaliya Top needs snow gear then.
