Quick answer
A 5-day Hampi tour spends three nights in Hampi for the Vittala Temple, Royal Enclosure, coracle ride and optional bouldering, then drives north to Aihole, Pattadakal and the Badami caves. It costs from ₹19,500 per person, suits friends and solo travellers, and October to February is best.
Trip Overview
Hampi's boulder-strewn landscape holds the ruins of the Vijayanagara empire, one of India's great medieval capitals. You explore by cycle or e-rickshaw with a guide: the Royal Enclosure, Lotus Mahal and the stone chariot at Vittala Temple, with a coracle ride on the Tungabhadra and sunset from Matanga or Hemakuta Hill.
Day three moves to the Anegundi side for a beginner bouldering session and the climb to Anjanadri Hill. Then the road runs north through Aihole, the 'cradle of Indian temple architecture', Pattadakal's UNESCO temples and the sandstone cave temples of Badami.
