About Mumbai
India's biggest city has two UNESCO sites in its centre: the Victorian Gothic and Art Deco ensemble around the Oval Maidan, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. A third, the Elephanta Caves, is an hour away by ferry.
Add the dabbawalas, Marine Drive at night, Bandra's street art and some of India's best restaurants, and two or three days go fast.
- Best time
- November to February. June to September is heavy monsoon, which is atmospheric but disruptive.

- Getting there
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has direct flights worldwide.
- For visitors from abroad
- Elephanta Caves are closed on Mondays and ferries stop in rough monsoon seas. Local trains are fast but very crowded at peak hours.
